Science Night fun

Saturday 6th-Sunday 7th October 2018

It was an exciting time for a group of Year 5 pupils today when they travelled to London for an amazing sleepover at the world-famous Science Museum!

This once in a lifetime opportunity saw the pupils arriving early evening on the Saturday, joined by their Whitefield friends, and being shown to their sleeping area for the night, where they prepared their sleeping bags! The children then headed to an entertaining safety talk before starting the night's fun.....first off, there was chemical bingo, where children saw exciting chemistry experiments whilst playing bingo at the same time! Next up was some scientific t-shirt printing, looking at how different materials absorb different liquids. And after supper came the jaw-dropping 'Hot or Cold' show, whose highlight was freezing different items with liquid nitrogen and then seeing how they changed (it was amazing!). The children then bedded down for the night in their allocated area, sleeping surprisingly well considering how excited they were!

On Sunday morning, the children rose bright and early, had breakfast and then headed to the breath-taking IMAX cinema to watch a short movie all about the Hubble telescope. After this, it was time for the exciting, hands-on Wonderlab gallery, where the children had the chance to engage with a whole range of interactive science experiments, which they absolutely loved. To end our visit, we all gathered back in the main arena where several Chantry pupils (and Mr Kelly!) won some prizes in the prize draw...wow!

All in all, a truly memorable event for the children and one which will stay with them for a long time to come.
