School Meals

Our school kitchen is proud to serve a variety of healthy freshly cooked meals, fully prepared and cooked on the premises daily. Our in-house catering team is supported by Relish Catering, and all our menus are produced in line with Government food standards, and offer your child a well-balanced meal. The team is committed to bringing in new ideas as well as engaging with the children and making them a part of how the menu is shaped to deliver exciting, freshly made and modern dishes which reflect the needs of the pupils.

We offer a full Halal menu alongside non-Halal, observing full separation of storage, preparation and service between the Halal and non-Halal food. This enables us to meet the needs of all of our families.

School meals can also be adapted for any specific dietary requirements; the kitchen team reviews the dietary and allergen information provided by you as parents to adapt the dishes to meet your child’s individual requirements. It is essential that this information is accurate and as up-to-date as possible. If you have any concerns or want to update the information please contact the school office.#

Pre-Ordering School Meals

You can now pre-order your children's meals up to a term in advance. Visit https://relishschoolfood.co.uk/parents/ and register on the free parent portal to get started. Please note, meals need to be ordered by midnight before the day of selection, you cannot pre-order the meal on the morning of the day as the meals would have already been synced with the system.

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 may eat school meals on a daily basis FREE of charge.  The Government-funded 'Universal Free School Meals' scheme funds schools to provide a meal for our infant classes.  You don't need to do anything to take up this offer except register your child online at Tucasi.  You do not need to make any payment - the meals are free for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

The weekly menus are always attached to the weekly newsletter that the school sends out. These are also available on our Other Letters page. Please look out for one-off special days, like our Roald Dahl, Diwali or Italian fun-themed menus.

If your child usually has a packed lunch and you would like them to have occasional school meals (including a Christmas lunch), please register them on the system, so that we can register their meal when they do choose to have one.

A number of children who usually prefer packed lunches eat a school meal on Thursday, as the kitchen traditionally serves up freshly made Pizza with a choice of toppings and made with our own vegetable-based tomato sauce, to ensure that fresh vegetables are at the heart of everything we do.

If your child prefers packed lunches but you would like them to take up the offer of a free lunch in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, the kitchen offers a 'Grab Bag'. This contains a freshly made sandwich or wrap, vegetable sticks, a freshly made cake, biscuit or fruit-based yoghurt and fresh fruit.  These are available every day, throughout the school year.

Children in years 3-6 are still required to pay for school meals, these are currently charged at £2.15 per day (£10.75 per week). If your child has school meals, you may be entitled to have these free.  If you think you may be eligible for Free School Meals, please ask the school office for details on how to apply.  All money is payable in advance and we use an online payment system - see our payments page for more details, here.

If you prefer your child to have a packed lunch from home, please ensure that you encourage healthy eating, perhaps by using wholemeal bread and providing fruit.  Children are not allowed fizzy drinks, sweets or chocolate bars in their lunches.  Lunchboxes should be a standard size and plastic boxes with a handle are preferred, they must also be named.

Fruit and vegetable snacks are available free to children throughout the school. We encourage children to drink water during the day, children should bring a named water bottle to school each day.

“The Trust is working hard to ensure that we provide the advertised menu in all of our schools on a daily basis. Unfortunately with the growing national shortage of drivers combined with the Global impact COVID has had on food manufacturers,  we may have to make changes to the menus at short notice.  The Trust is working hard with our nominated suppliers,  to ensure we are given as much notice as possible to any potential shortages.

To try and mitigate these, we have increased our stockholding and are looking to increase the number of nominated suppliers.  We want to reassure all parents that if we do have to adapt the menus, we will look to replace them with a similar product, and ensure that the students' dietary requirements are not affected and that we will continue to meet the local authority guidelines on food standards.”
